Reds vs. Nationals: Series Recap

The Reds and Nationals squared off in their second meeting of the 2023 season on Tuesday. The aces were on the mound for both teams, as Bobby Gambardella toed the rubber against Ryan Casano. The two traded zeroes for six straight innings as they each collected six strikeouts. After Bob’s day of work was over in the seventh, Casano tried to match him. After a big hit from Anthony Zimmerman – who was filling in for his brother – to keep the inning alive, 2023’s lefty Gambardella (Anthony) hit a single to center field to bring in the winning run (Reds 0, Nationals 1; F/7).

In game two, the pitchers continued to keep the hitters silent as Brian Marra and Anthony Gambardella matched zeroes for the first two frames. In the third, the Reds were able to get two across with the help of WBA legend Tommy Ruck who was making a comeback for the day in place of rookie Shane O’Neill. Ruck collected an RBI along with Ryan Casano. That would be all Marra needed on the mound as he scattered four hits from the Nationals without allowing a run. Marra’s eephus was working as he collected four strikeouts in the victory as well (Nationals 0, Reds 2).

Through three innings, game three started as a pitchers duel. However in the fourth, both starters – Brian Marra and Bobby Gambardella – would give up a run. Then in the fifth, the bats came alive for the Nats. After a bloop single that fell, they would have an 8-run outburst capped off by 4 home runs from the two Gambardellas and Anthony Zimmerman – who may be earning himself a call-up soon. Bobby Gambardella set the Reds down quickly in the sixth inning and finished the season series between these two with the Nats taking three of four (Reds 1, Nationals 9).
